Kemal Inal
Kemal Inal is a Marxist academic and intellectual. He has been working as a sociologist in the faculty of communication at Gazi University, Ankara, Turkey. Focusing on the educational policy and cultural problems of Turkey, he teaches introduction to sociology, language policy, media literacy, media and children, interpersonal communication, social psychology and so on. He has published a high number of academic books in Turkish as well as articles on different areas, and translated many books from English and French into Turkish. He is the deputy Middle East editor for ‘the Journal for Critical Education Policy Studies’ and the founder of the Revolutionary Critical Education Initiative with Ulas Basar Gezgin in 2014. He founded and managed two bi-monthly academic journals on critical (revolutionary) education and was a columnist on education in two Turkish socialist daily newspapers for five years. With Guliz Akkaymak, he co-edited the book ‘Neoliberal Transformation of Education in Turkey. Political and Ideological Analysis of Educational Reforms in the Age of the AKP’ (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012). He edited the book “Gezi, İsyan, Özgürlük. Sokağın Şenlikli Muhalefeti” (Gezi, Revolt, Freedom. The Festive Opposition in the streets, Ayrıntı Publishing House, 2013, İstanbul). With Ulaş Başar Gezgin and Dave Hill, he co-edited the book The Gezi Revolt: People’s Revolutionary Resistance against Neoliberal Capitalism in Turkey (Insitute for Education Policy Studies in Brighton, England, 2014). He is now the editor of Turkish-English journal “Alternative Education” which will have been publishing since January 2016.
